Talk:Main Page
From Prophecy Network Wiki
Layout of the Front Page
Ok I'm going to list what we have currently on the front page, and then hopefully we can come to some sort of consensus as to what we want to remain on the front page, and any additional modules which we could add for more functionality.
- Welcome live
- Selected article index live
- Community Pages live
- Featured Media live
- Prophecy Network News live
- Featured Article live
- Help live
- Random pages needing editing not live
Potentially the selected article index, ad the community pages will need to be expanded on. I also envisage that the article index will link to certain articles, and then to portals to index other areas of the site. I think in order to keep the wiki easy to follow we will need to use more portals than we did on the nc-wiki.
It maybe the case that we have too much media on the front page, both a featured article (which really will be important in creating link throughs from the main page once the site starts to take off), and the featured media is important to show case the "sexiness" of Black Prophecy to people who come to look at the wiki to determine if the game is for them.
The PN news should be important to keep, as it allows us to keep the front page up to date with the latest prophecy news, however maybe we should decrease the number of links to previous news that we keep? (Currently it is 10, dropping to 5 will decrease the amount of vertical space that it takes up?). Although if/when ReaKKtor release a RSS feed for their news we should make sure that we include the news from that.
The Help page is very important to link people to the documentation required to edit and keep within the site policies, although maybe we can look to decrease the number of lines that is used in the module, decreasing and linking to further portals to try to limit the vertical space it is using.
I propose that we add the "Random Pages" module, which we can set to randomly display links to articles within a set category, for example we could show five random stubs which need to be completed, and so linking them on the front page should allow more people to see it, and see what needs to be done, (hopefully) creating more editors who come back to the wiki again and again to help drive it forward.
I'm interested to here everyone else's comments before I put forward a proposal to change the front page. -- δφ (delphi) 16:09, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
